Valentine is a Stamford native. After a career of managing baseball in the U.S. and Japan, Valentine was named the director of intercollegiate athletics at SHU last February.

Gooden pitched for both the Mets and the Yankees and was the youngest player to win the Cy Young Award. He won three World Series rings in his career and currently works with at-risk children and adults.

The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on the SHU campus.

Tickets for the event are $15 for the general public and $35 for a signed copy of Gooden's new book.
