Boynton Named Football Coach At Notre Dame Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Ted Boynton, a long-time assistant football at Notre Dame of Fairfield, was named the team's new head coach Monday.

Boynton worked as an assistant for the past 10 years for the Lancers under several coaches. He is the team's third head coach in three years. Rico Brogna quit after one season, and Dawson Dicks was let go after last season. Boynton becomes the team's fifth head coach in the last six seasons.

Notre Dame's last winning season was in 2007 under Jason Hart. The Lancers are 4-26 in the last three seasons and went 1-9 each of the last two seasons.

"Ted has been with the program for many years beginning with Coach (Jeff) Bevino.  Now as he enters his role as head coach, I am sure his commitment to our student-athletes and his loyalty to Notre Dame will both be contributing factors to his success,'' said Fr. Bill Sangiovanni, President of Notre Dame.

“It will be a rebuilding process as we will go back to basics,'' Boynton said. "We will work on the fundamentals of the game every day.  We will reinforce the foundation which is in place, set short term goals and must learn to win in practice on a daily basis.  Practices will be organized, the staff will be prepared and energized, and our student-athletes will work hard each day."
