7th Grade Fairfield Wildcats Finish Second

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Fairfield seventh-grade Blue Wildcats traveled to Darien to take on the undefeated Darien White team Saturday morning. From the onset, Darien’s defense shut down Fairfield’s power running game. Darien scored the first two touchdowns of the game to take a 12-0 lead. However, quarterback Jack Dowden completed a 75-yard touchdown pass to receiver Tyler Petry to make the score 12-6 at the half.

During the third quarter, Darien converted a critical third-and-15 to keep its drive alive and score its third touchdown.

On offense, fullback Ethan Burger had a big 20-yard carry followed by a 52-yard screen pass for Fairfield’s second touchdown. However, Darien’s offense could not be stopped. Scoring twice more, Darien took a 30-14 lead. Wingback Jack Caserta scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, making it 30-20. This was the only game this year in which Darien allowed more than a single touchdown.

The finale was disappointing for Fairfield, but the team still had an exceptional season. Fairfield 7 Blue finished with seven more victories than the previous season, and its second place finish was its best in five years. Two road playoff wins, one against an undefeated team in the semifinal round of the playoffs, were the highlights of an amazing season.
