The workshops foster academic achievement by teaching students key study strategies that help them learn while reducing stress.

The workshop is open to all area students in Grades 9 through 12.

Classes will be held on three Saturdays, Nov. 2, 9, and 16 at the library's main branch, 1080 Old Post Road in Fairfield. The classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 pm, with the last class on Nov. 16 meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The workshops are taught by accredited teachers and class size is limited to 15 students. Small class size allows for more focused and individualized attention to be given to each student.

The S4 program is founded on educational research and evidence-based studies. Its interactive approach clearly connects students' own curriculum to the study strategies they learn. S4's workshops are continually refreshed and updated to stay relevant to students' academic experiences.

The S4 program provides students with the skills and strategies needed for:

  • Better classroom engagement
  • Increased focus
  • Reduced anxiety and stress
  • Longer retention
  • Better preparation for class, tests and projects
  • Increased ability to synthesize information
  • Enhanced critical-thinking skills
  • Increased confidence
  • An independent approach to learning

Students in the S4 workshop will learn foundational study skills for time management, organization, and executive functioning. Skills taught include goal-setting, using a planner, note-taking methods, self-advocacy, active reading and listening techniques, identifying main ideas and supporting details, using visuals, summarizing to learn, and long-term project and test preparation strategies.

S4 supplies all materials for the workshops. Each day, students will return home with materials that complement and reinforce the day's lessons. Parents are provided with post-session emails that explain what was taught and provide information for how to support students in practicing the new skills.

The 7.5-hour, three-session workshop costs $395. For more information contact S4 at 203-307-5455 or email info@S4StudySkills.com. Students can register online,
