The Rev. Victor T. Martin, who served as a U.S. Air Force chaplain, opened an assembly at the school, "with a beautiful prayer and a reminder that when you see someone in uniform you should make it a point to thank them for serving," according to a press release from the school. This year’s guest speaker was Lt. Stephen Donahue of the U.S. Navy, according to the release.
"Lt. Donahue’s message was clear," the press release said. "He told the assembly that it was an honor to have served his country, and that everyone should take time out to educate themselves on Wars and the Armed Forces, and to explore the opportunity to serve one’s country."
The assembly also honored several other veterans, including Gregory Martire U.S. Army, Special Operations; Cpl. Paul Magnano, U.S. Marine Corps; Robert Korchman, U.S. Marine Corps; Lou Nocero, U.S. Navy Seabee; Sgt. Mike Benedetto, U.S. Marine Corps; and Alex Fucci, U.S. Army.
"It is vital that we teach our children to give the respect that our armed forces deserve, and to remind them of the sacrifice that our Veterans make so that we can live in freedom," said the release.
