Notre Dame-Fairfield Grads Await New Opportunities

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Meghan Cassidy thinks her generation gets a bad rap. As she gave her address to Notre Dame of Fairfield’s Class of 2012, the Norwalk senior and class valedictorian called out “cultural experts” who pegged her age group as “apathetic, lazy, socially unaware, and disconnected.”

Her classmates are now tasked with proving her right. Ninety-eight students received their diplomas from Notre Dame Friday evening. Of those, 98 percent will go on to higher education — but not without help. The class earned more than $10.6 million in scholarships and grants to continue their education. Principal Christopher Cipriano urged them to be ready for the challenge.

“It seems like every day there is a new challenge, a new struggle, a new obstacle to overcome, whether locally, nationally or elsewhere around the globe,” Cipriano said. “But with these challenges come opportunities, opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.”
