Marine Vet Cheered by Fairfield Students

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – “Oo-rah!”

The Marine Corps cheer rang out last week at St. Thomas Aquinas School as Marine Lt. Michael Riffice and other veterans visited for a Veterans Day assembly. Raffice taught the kids not just the traditional Marine shoutout, but about his experiences serving in Iraq during the Gulf War.

“It was an honor to listen to Lt. Riffice explain the four core values that the Marines live by, and to stand before the veterans of past wars,” Barbara Duffin, the school’s director of advancement and marketing, wrote in an email. “Our veterans are at the core of our nation’s foundation, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School truly captured the essence of the day.”

After listening to Raffice’s speech, the St. Thomas choir regaled the veterans with patriotic songs in front of a packed auditorium.

Joining Riffice were: Lt. Stephen Donahue (Navy, the Gulf War), Commander James Harris (Navy-Iraq), Sgt. Sharon Bloom (Army-Iraq), Sgt. Ron Orszag (Vietnam), Greg Martire (Army-World War II), Bob Korchman (Korean War) and Sgt. John Julian (Afghanistan).
