FAIRFIELD, Conn. When Trumbull resident Susan Bachlechner brought her 1957 pink Thunderbird to the Classic Car show at Fairfields Notre Dame Catholic High School, she didnt realize the Pink Lady would see the Pink Ladies.
Notre Dames drama club is fundraising for its spring musical Grease and to raise the money, the group hosted the car show in the school parking lot. Around 90 cars showed up to show off and lend their support to the cause.
Its a charity thing. You know the money is going somewhere good, said Bob Barbieri who came from Seymore to show off his Camero. He and his friends heard about the show by word of mouth and said they were happy to be there supporting the schools show.
I didnt know it was the show Grease, so it was really great to see, Bachlechner said. The students said they were especially thrilled to see so many 1950s cars for their 1950s show.
For drama club president and senior Kelsey Sentcio, 17, getting to perform Grease is the culmination of three years asking. She will get to play Rizzo.
The turnout for the car show fundraiser was completely unexpected, Sentcio said.
We never expected anything like this at all, said Theresa Marzik, advancement director for Notre Dame.
We have to fundraise for whatever we need every year, said Joshua St. Onge, musical director. Last year, when the school performed Beauty and the Beast the fundraiser was a character breakfast for children, but Grease isnt really a character breakfast thing, he said
Notre Dames performance of Grease will take place May 4-6, with four shows at Sacred Heart University.
