Wednesday was also declared Glen Mackno Day in the town of Fairfield by First Selectman Michael Tetreau in honor of the accomplishment.
Mackno was nominated for the award by Roger Ludlowe’s own PTSA. In its nomination, the PTSA cited his policy to greet each sixth-grader personally on their first day in Roger Ludlowe, his frequent trips through the halls to meet with students and teachers, and his “honesty and support” for the school’s parents and students.
“Although I’m being recognized today in this venue, it really is an award that involves a lot of people,” Mackno said Wednesday. In particular he thanked Roger Ludlowe’s “dynamic and hard-working PTSA,” its “child-centered and hard-working, caring staff,” a “wonderful administration,” and his supportive wife.
Mackno also announced Wednesday he would retire at the end of the school year, marking the end of a 34-year career in Fairfield’s public schools.
“It’s been a privilege and an honor to serve the children of Fairfield and the community itself,” he said.
