Stratfield Elementary School sent two of its first-year teams to the World Championships in the Odyssey of the Mind problem-solving competition. The kids took on their first-ever global competition May 28 in College Park, Md., and they did not disappoint. Both teams placed in the top 11 of their age groups.
The schools team in the Good as Gold berg problem finished fifth in its age group out of 61 teams. The team Maura Keary, Liam Holroyd, Olivia Parisi, Peter Fucigna, Lily Cherniske and Daniel Fitzpatrick earned the honor with the help of coaches Amy Keary and Stephanie Holroyd.
Stratfields other state champions, who worked on the problem titled Le Tour Guide, placed 11th in a 64-team field. Fiona Kennelly, Emily Healy, Daniel McAleese, Abrianna Natoli, Alexey Linsenmeyer, Carly Pavoni and Iain McCay were the top-placing team in their division from Connecticut with the guidance of coaches Jennifer Maxon Kennelly and Kerry Underhill.
