FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfields kids will get an extra week to finish their summer reading. Superintendent David Title has decided that Fairfield Public Schools will start the school year next Tuesday, Sept. 6, as the town continues to recover from Tropical Storm Irene. Teachers will report Thursday.
School was scheduled to begin Thursday morning, but many schools were still without power Tuesday afternoon. Classes will not start until after the Labor Day weekend. Fairfields parochial schools, Assumption/Holy Family and St. Thomas, will follow suit. St. Catherine Academy will also be closed Wednesday.
At higher levels, Notre Dame High School will be closed again Wednesday. It plans to resume with its book-buying day Thursday. Fairfield Prep still hopes to go back to school Wednesday. Sacred Heart University also plans to begin classes Wednesday. Fairfield University has pushed its move-in days to Sunday and Monday.
