FAIRFIELD, Conn. A group of students at Fairfields St. Thomas Aquinas School paid homage to a different saint last week. The boys changed their look to honor and collect $15,000 for St. Baldrick.
The St. Baldricks Foundation raises money for research into cures for pediatric cancer. The nationwide charity encourages donors to collect pledges by offering to shave their heads, in solidarity with patients who lose their hair during chemotherapy treatments. Last year St. Baldricks raised more than $28 million.
At St. Thomas, 37 students and one teacher went bald for the April 23 fundraiser. Principal Patricia Brady and their fellow students cheered them on, chanting Shave That Head.
