Fairfield Kids Get Beaches Ready for Summer

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A group of Fairfield students enjoyed a trip to Fairfield’s Sasco Beach not long ago. But the kids weren’t there just to enjoy the view—they set out to make it better.

The students are all members of St. Thomas Aquinas School’s Human Relations Committee, who perform community service projects around Fairfield. In honor of Earth Day last month, the girls picked up litter on Sasco Beach. The end result was several bags filled with cups, aluminum foil, bottles, plastic bags, soda cans, food wrappers, to broken glass—and a much cleaner beach.

“When you are next enjoying Sasco Beach, notice how clean the beach is thanks in part to the efforts of our Human Relations committee,” Barbara Duffin, St. Thomas marketing director, said in an email. “Let’s hope our citizens will keep it that way!”

Committee members participating were Caroline Fitzgerald, Julia Rachel, Colleen McCurley, Alex Chessare, John O’Connor, Hayden Beiser, John Gnibus, Matt Pompa, Julia Sendzik, Nicole Dunn, Jack Garfield, and Julia Rivenburg.
