FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Tuesday, May 5, is National Teacher Day.

The first recognized National Teacher Day was held on March 7, 1980. The National Education Association continued to recognize the holiday in March until 1985 when it was moved to the second Tuesday in May.
