A high school in Connecticut was placed in its lockdown protocol following reports of a student who was allegedly in possession of a handgun.

In New Haven County, the Meriden Police Department responded to the Orville H. Platt High School on Coe Avenue shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, where there was a report of a student possibly with the weapon.

According to police, parents who feel compelled to respond to the school should report to Centennial Plaza at the location of the old Stop & Shop supermarket.

Meriden Police Lt. Darrin McKay said that this is an active investigation.
