“I am humbled and thrilled to have won my third term,” Hwang said Tuesday night. “But it is more than anything else a vindication that what we have done to serve our community has been validated by the people.”
Among Fairfield’s voters, Hwang outpaced Dean by a more than two-to-one margin, taking in 3,831 votes to her 1,828. In Trumbull, the results were 3,103 for Hwang versus 1,715 for Dean.
Hwang wins his third term in the state House of Representatives. Before that he served for three years in Fairfield’s local legislature, the Representative Town Meeting. He is a residential real estate agent based in Fairfield.
Dean is currently in her fourth nonconsecutive term in the Representative Town Meeting. Dean worked in health care before taking over Bright Futures Child Care Learning Center with her husband, Jeff, in 2003.
Hwang said that he prided himself on running a positive campaign, and felt that voters would respond to more campaigns like it in the future. Other Republican leaders praised Hwang’s hard work in the community.
“His numbers tonight show that [voters] are rewarding him for a job well done,” said Republican Town Committee chair James Millington.
The 134th House District covers Fairfield’s northern neighborhoods, including all areas north of Hill Farm Road, Stillson Road and the Samp Mortar Reservoir. It also includes a section of southwestern Trumbull.
