Citing unnamed sources close to the campaign, the story suggested Clinton will look for a running mate who would appeal to Bernie Sanders fans, providing both a fresh face and a more progressive perspective.
Top contenders would include Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, USA Today reported.
Among “others who may be interested,” the newspaper named Murphy, 42, who it said “billed himself during his campaign as a ‘fresh, progressive voice.’”
Asked whether he’d like the job during a Tuesday visit to Fairfield, Murphy paused and would only say, “That’s a tough job.”
