Fawcett Wins Fourth Term Representing Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Kim Fawcett won the race for Fairfield’s 133rd House District Tuesday representing eastern Fairfield. Fawcett defeated Chris DeSanctis by an unofficial tally of 5,571 votes to 3,452.

Fawcett said Tuesday night that she feels she won the campaign “one person at a time.”

“I have really focused, the six years that I’ve been in this work, on making this job very personal,” Fawcett said. “When someone calls me I stop what I’m doing, I come to their house, I sit in their family room, I talk with them about their issue or problem and I really try to help them.”

Fawcett wins her fourth term as state representative from the 133rd. Before joining the General Assembly she worked as a legislative assistant in Maryland’s governor’s office and as a youth program director for the National School Health Education Coalition. She has also served on many local community groups.

DeSanctis has served on Fairfield’s local legislature, the Representative Town Meeting and was appointed to the Metro North-New Haven Rail Council and Connecticut’s Property Tax Cap Commission. He is the principal of Stamford’s Grace Christian School and a professor at Sacred Heart University and Norwalk Community College.

The race for the 133rd was one of Fairfield’s most contentious, with both candidates claiming that the other had misled voters about their records. Many voters outside the polls in the district said they were turned off by the negative campaigning.

“They were more focused on ‘This is why you shouldn’t vote for this one,’ instead of saying, ‘Here’s what I stand for,’” said District 133 voter Christopher Barkley. “You’ve got to get to what you want to do for us, not what that person isn’t going to do.”

Fawcett said that winning by such a large margin despite the negativity of the campaign “made the win bigger.”

The 133rd District covers Fairfield’s eastern neighborhoods. Its boundaries run along the Bridgeport line from Ash Creek to Valley Road, and extend as far west as Fairfield University in some areas.
