Fairfield's Kupchick, Devlin Receive ‘New Year’ Legislative Assignments

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- State Representatives Brenda Kupchick, a Republican from the 132nd District, and Laura Devlin, a Republican from the 134th, received their legislative committee assignments from House Republican Leader Themis Klarides.

Kupchick was re-elected to a fourth term while Devlin was elected to her second term.The legislative session that opened on Jan. 4.

Klarides promoted Kupchick to the position of caucus Whip to shape public policy, assisting fellow Republican lawmakers and making sure Republican House members are in attendance to cast their votes on legislative issues.

Additionally, Kupchick will serve another term on the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate committee, which has cognizance over all matters relating to insurance law and real estate law and continue her service on the Housing committee to work on the affordable housing statutes in the state.

Kupchick also received a new appointment to the General Law committee this year. The General Law committee has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Consumer Protection, fair trade and sales practices, consumer protection, mobile homes and occupational licensing, except licensing by the Department of Public Health; and all matters relating to alcoholic beverages.

“My focus on the Insurance committee this session will be to improve our mental health services and expanded coverage in Connecticut to better help families.'' Kupchick said.

Devlin received an appointment to be the top Republican on the Government Administration and Elections committee.

The Government Administration and Elections Committee addresses issues concerning the Department of Administrative Services, Department of Public Works, state government organization and reorganization, structures and procedures, Freedom of Information Commission and Ethics Commission as well as well as elections and election laws.

Devlin is also returning to the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee for another two-year term where she will continue to fight attempts to raise taxes on families and businesses in Fairfield and Trumbull

Additionally, Devlin will return to the legislature’s Transportation committee. The Transportation Committee has cognizance of all matters relating transportation, including highways and bridges, mass transit and railroads.
