Fairfield’s voters will join those across the country in choosing the next president. The two main contenders are President Barack Obama (D) and challenger Mitt Romney (R). Gary Johnson (Libertarian) and Rocky Anderson (Independent) also are on the ballot.

Linda McMahon (R) and U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy (D) are running for the U.S. Senate seat held by . Independent Joe Lieberman, who is retiring. Independent Paul Passarelli is also a candidate in that race.

In the House of Representatives, incumbent Jim Himes (D-4th District) is running for re-election against challenger Steve Obsitnik  (R).

Fairfield is represented by one seat in the state Senate and three seats in the state House of Representatives. District boundaries for the House have changed, so more than half of Fairfield’s voters will find themselves choosing from different candidates than two years ago. In the 133rd district, Fairfield voters will pick between Incumbent Kim Fawcett (D) and Chris DeSanctis  (R). And in the 134th district, which covers parts of Fairfield and Trumbull, ncumbent Tony Hwang (R) faces Heather Dean (D).
