Fairfield Reps Blast Malloy's Proposal To Slash Education Grant To Zero

Malloy released his updated budget proposal Tuesday afternoon outside of his office. Under his updated budget proposal, Fairfield went from receiving a recommended amount of $3,590,008 in ECS funding to $0 for 2016-2017. This came on the heels of the Appropriations Committee voting to cut Fairfield's ECS funds by 1.2 million.

“Although this is only a proposal, this is a serious cause for concern. We understand that due to the current fiscal climate, tough decisions need to be made. But, we must remain rational and fair while making these decisions. This simply is not fair and it does a serious disservice to the town that has already budgeted for this money,” said Kupchick and Devlin.

Other towns in Fairfield County were also completely cut including Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Ridgefield, Weston and Westport.

The 2016 Legislative session adjourns at midnight May 4.
