“I really the like the governor,” Weiner said after the event. “A lot of politicians these days — they don’t tell the truth. They just say things to get elected.”
But Weiner said he respects Kasich because of his positions, which he defended in a recent televised debate.
“You had some of the commentators afterwards almost laughing saying he would have done better in a Democratic debate," Weiner said. "John Kasich doesn’t say whats Republican or Democrat, he says what’s right.”
Weiner said he enjoyed the political event, which lasted nearly 90 minutes. If anything could have been better, he would have liked the chance to personally interact with Kasich.
“I wish he would have stayed a little longer and got to take some more questions,” Weiner said, adding he would have liked to ask Kasich a question or two himself.
Kasich answered several questions, including some from local college students. But judging from the show of hands, many more attendees wanted to ask questions than those who had a chance.
Weiner was one of about 1,000 people crowded into Sacred Heart University’s Martire Business & Communications Center to hear from the two-term Ohio governor on Friday.
While the free event was billed to start at noon, the best seats in the house were quickly taken. Weiner, who said Friday’s rally was his first campaign event, said he would leave a little extra time for the next one.
“I know next time come a little earlier,” he said. “I came at 11 o’clock, and I was so surprised, ‘Wow, all those front seats were taken.’”
