To the Editor:
Despite the constant negative news, Connecticut does still have a lot going for it, but we continue to neglect our transportation issues. You do not have to be a commuter to realize we have some serious congestion issues.
The Democrats in Hartford, led by Gov. Dannell Malloy, just don’t seem to get it. Cristin McCarthy Vahey has voted to fund the last two budgets with record-high tax increases. Although she claims she voted against the budget proposal, which she did, she voted immediately afterward to fully fund it. A political game not lost on those of us who watch and pay attention.
The Democratic majority in our state is exploring a Metro-North fare increase of 5 percent. We cannot continue to pay more and get less. The Fairfield Metro Center, which is in McCarthy Vahey’s district, does not even have bathrooms and yet I do not hear her raising a stink. On top of all of this, the Democrats also are exploring a mileage tax on drivers. How many ways are we going to allow this Democratic majority to continue to tax us instead of fixing the root cause — a lack of fiscal responsibility?
We need a change in Hartford NOW! I urge anyone in the 133rd district to vote for Ray Neuberger for State Representative. Ray supports a solid budget plan that will get Connecticut back on track and will fight for Fairfield. He will not cave to pressures of his party leadership like so many of the Democrats are doing in Hartford these days. It is time for a change, and I hope you will help make that happen Nov. 8.
