Democrats said they had the votes to pass the budget — a compromise hammered out with Gov. Dannel Malloy to close a nearly $1 billion deficit for the next fiscal year without raising taxes, the Mirror said. But lawmakers wanted more time to review and debate the plan, which still had not been delivered and whose contents remained largely unknown, CT Mirror said.
The legislature now must meet in special session to adopt a budget bill for the fiscal year that begins July 1, with a tentative plan to reconvene Tuesday, CT Mirror said.
The budget is expected to call for hundreds of layoffs of state workers and make taxpayers in more than 30 communities ineligible for a car-tax capping program, the story said.
