Due to an error by the VA, the veterans were erroneously placed in rest homes in 2007, even though these facilities are not authorized VA placements for veterans in need of full-time medical care.
According to the letter to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, the department issued notice on Oct. 11 that it will no longer pay for services being provided to the vets in their current homes.
Blumenthal and Murphy asked that the VA take no further action until the housing needs of the veterans are assessed. Also, since many of the vets were previously homeless, that the VA determine their eligibility for additional care and housing services.
