Corporate security for Marshall’s department store on the Post Road reported a series of bad checks written by a Westport woman in January, police said. The woman issued five personal checks to the store in a five-day period, and all five were returned for insufficient funds, according to the police report. The woman used the checks to pay for $5,735 in merchandise and gift cards, police say.
On March 6, a driver on the Post Road reported being rear-ended while stopped at the intersection with North Benson Road, according to police reports. The woman pulled into a nearby lot, but the other driver drove away, weaving between cars to avoid stopping, the complainant said. She provided police with a license plate and a description of the other driver, which matched the suspect in the Marshall's incidents.
Lynn Sclafani, 50, of West Parish Road in Westport was arrested on a warrant for both incidents Monday, according to police reports. She was charged with third-degree larceny by scheme, a felony, and assigned a $30,000 bond in connection with the bad checks.
For the accident she was charged with evading responsibility and following too closely, both misdemeanors, and issued a $2,500 bond. She is due in court on May 20 for both all three charges.
