Westport Police responded to a Westport residence on a report of a disturbance on Sunday, Oct. 20 around 1 a.m.
Further investigation revealed that Thomas Stuttard of Westport had been involved in a verbal altercation, police say. After providing officers with a witness statement, police say the victim informed them that they would be leaving, prompting officers to clear the scene.
A short time later, police responded to the residence again on a report that Stuttard had allegedly returned and committed a physical assault.
Stuttard was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting a $1,000 and was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, Oct. 21.
