Abdus-Shadid Muhammad, 53, of North Elm Street, faces larceny and burglary charges in the three incidents from last year, police said.
On Nov. 21, 2016, a woman came to police headquarters to report she had been loading a child into her parked car on the Post Road when someone stole her $800 Louis Vuitton purse, which contained a $1,000 Chanel wallet, about $160 cash and other items, police said.
Someone found the purse in the bathroom at the nearby Fairfield Public Library, police said.
A check of surveillance video showed a man enter the library, go to the men’s room and then spend about an hour in the computer lab, police said.
On Dec. 2, a detective went to the computer lab and saw the man from the video, later identified as Muhammad, who has 27 prior arrests on charges of burglary, larceny, possession of narcotics and more, police said.
The detective applied for an arrest warrant after speaking to Muhammad, who was charged with third-degree larceny in that incident.
On Sept. 6, 2016, detectives investigating a break-in at Mancuso’s found a bloody handprint on glass at the scene and linked the DNA to Muhammad, police said.
On Friday, he was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny in that incident. Bond was set at $75,000.
Muhammad was also arrested in a second break-in at the Kings Highway East restaurant the prior week, police said. He was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny in that incident. The bond was $75,000.
