Joseph Odiase, 60, of Woodglen Drive, was found with a British passport, a credit card, Illinois ID card and a Department of Corrections volunteer card — all fakes — at the time of his arrest, police said.

Police believe he was attempting to deposit the check and withdraw the funds before the bank would notice the check he was using was also from a false account.

The bank was also informed someone had gone to a Stamford branch and tried to cash a check for $3,500 from the account recently, police said.

Odiase was charged with nine counts of second-degree forgery. He was held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12, police said.
