FAIRFIELD, Conn. Two men were charged with shoplifting meat in separate incidents this past week at the Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff, police reported.
On Sunday afternoon, store security reported to police that William Jones, 19, of Bridgeport, put approximately $216 worth of meat and candy into reusable shopping bags and walked out without paying. Police charged Jones with sixth-degree larceny, a misdemeanor, and he was released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 20.
On Thursday afternoon, store security again reported that a man had come into the store and put meat into a bag, this time a backpack. Marco Jorge, 48, of Stamford, paid for smaller items at the self-checkout lane but not the meat, according to the police report. When questioned by officers, he said he had no intention of paying for the items, police say.
Jorge was also charged with sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 27.
