Police said Michael Ciambriello, 21, of Rocky Ridge Drive, was traveling north on Mill Plain near Crystal Lane about 1:30 a.m., when he struck the mailbox and pole with enough force to move the pole a few inches. He climbed out of the passenger door to get out of the car, police said.

Officers at the scene noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage and Ciambriello was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, according to the report.

The accident is under investigation.
