Officer Matthew Riendeau ran the plate on a car being driven by Hector Morales, 19 of Bridgeport, and it came back with no information, according to the police report. When Riendeau stopped the car, he saw a large number of items, including tools used to break into cars, flashlights, black gloves, a 3-inch buck knife and screwdrivers, the police report said.
Morales and his two passengers, Luis Gonsales, 18, of Bridgeport, and a 15-year-old boy from Bridgeport, appeared nervous when Riendeau came to the car, the police report said. The officer ordered all three out of the car, police said. After a brief interview, Morales admitted that they had broken into several cars, police said.
Officers investigated 10 car break-ins in the areas of Dawn Street, Poe Court and Black Rock Turnpike. Cash, cellphones, GPS units and purses were among the items found, police said.
All three were charged with 10 counts of third-degree burglary, 10 counts of sixth-degree larceny, 10 counts of third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, 10 counts of sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, nine counts of second-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
Both Gonsales and Morales were also charged with risk of injury to a minor. The 15-year-old was taken to headquarters, turned over to a family member, and given a juvenile summons and a court date of Nov. 26.
Gonsales and Morales were held on $100,000 bond each and given a court date of Nov. 25. Morales was also issued a misdemeanor summons on charges of misuse of places, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating and uninsured vehicle and driving without a license.
