At about 4:30 p.m., their 18-foot catamaran capsized off the beach in Fairfield, police said. Three children, ages 10, 9 and 8, along with the father of one of the boys went overboard, police said.
The group was in the water for about 15 minutes as the father tried to right the boat, which was difficult in the 25-knot winds, police said.
A Bridgeport police boat was the first on the scene, arriving shortly after the father had righted the boat and the three boys were already back in the cockpit, police said.
The father told police after they were taken to the South Benson Marina that the current had been moving quickly and he was concerned how fast they were moving toward Bridgeport.
No one was injured in the incident. All four refused medical treatment.
Fairfield Police Lt. James Perez commended the Bridgeport unit for its quick assistance in getting the group safely into shore.
