An officer on patrol on Jackman Avenue saw an empty car with its door open parked on the street early Wednesday, police said. Because of a high number of car burglaries in the area recently, the officer called for others to help comb the area looking for suspects.

During the canvass, police saw Romario Henry, 18, of Bridgeport and a 15-year-old Bridgeport resident riding bicycles in the same area at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the police report.

The two were carrying a cellphone and a purse, which were later reported stolen from an unlocked car nearby, police say. The bicycles they were riding were also reported stolen from a backyard on Edgewood Road, according to police reports.

Henry and the juvenile were both charged with third-degree burglar, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit burglary and larceny, and attempted larceny. Each was released on a promise to appear in court.

Other car burglaries were also reported overnight on Brooklawn Terrace, Brookview Avenue and Warwick Avenue in the same area. Those incidents were still under investigation, and no charges have been filed in those cases. Residents in the area are advised to lock their cars’ doors when leaving them unattended.
