Mauredson Chaves, 38, of Ansonia, was identified by the Ansonia Police Department as a suspect in a reported case of the sexual abuse of a minor on Friday, Feb. 1, and an arrest warrant was obtained, said Asonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch.
With the assistance of the Bridgeport Police Department, Chaves was taken into custody without incident as he attempted to drive onto I-95 southbound, Lynch said.
When Chaves was arrested, he was found with his passport and a packed suitcase.
Chaves was charged with sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He is being held on a $500,000 bond and is set to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on Monday, Feb. 4.
