An officer from the Darien Police Department was flagged down in front of Mama Carmela’s deli on Route 1 (Post Road) at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Police said that two people told the officer that the deli had been broken into overnight.
According to police, the two employees arrived at work to find that the lock on the front door had been damaged. Inside, a cash register was broken open and an undisclosed amount of cash was reported missing.
The break-in remains under investigation as detectives continue to process evidence.
