Luis Alomar, 37, nonetheless tried to blend in to his surroundings during what federal authorities said was a five-month holdup spree that stretched from Connecticut to Florida — and included a $74,000 heist in Wilmington, Delaware.
The stocky, 5-foot-4-inch, 145-pound Alomar was arrested around 2:30 this morning in the Long Island town of Medford, a day after the FBI identified him as armed and dangerous.
Surveillance images show him wearing a yellow fedora and matching tie in tony Greenwich, CT, on Aug. 28, which forced a shutdown of Metro-North Railroad service as authorities searched evening rush-hour trains, tracks and the surrounding area for the dapper robber.
Weeks earlier, he apparently struck twice in 20 minutes at the opposite end of Fairfield County: Both of the banks robbed in the town of Fairfield are just off Route I-95. He wore a different baseball cap in each, authorities said.
The garb included a cowboy hat and rimmed glass during a Sept. 16 holdup in Wilmington in which the FBI said he told a teller: “Don’t f–k with me. I’ll blow your head off.”
He then led a manager into the vault, had her remove her shirt so that he could hide the bags of money and fled with $74,000, the bureau said.
Just about all of the banks robbed in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Delaware and Maryland are located near major highways or public transportation hubs
No weapon was shown in any of the robberies, authorities said.
Alomar is believed to have ties to both to Mastic and Shirley, L.I., and southern Florida — specifically Palm Beach County, Kissimmee, and Osceola County.
He has used several aliases, including Arturo Alomar, Luis Arturo, David Diaz, David Gonzalez, Louis Alomar and Luis Castillo, the FBI said.
