No one was sure what started the ruckus among the women, who hail from Norwalk to New Haven, as witnesses gave many conflicting statements, police said.
Police were called to the Villa Avenue diner around 3 a.m. on a report of a large fight between two groups of women.
When a waitress tried to break things up, someone grabbed her hair and punched her in the face, police said.
Once officers arrived, most of the combatants had calmed down, police said. However, Raven Holmes, 35, of Chapel Street, New Haven, was still exhibiting “tumultuous behavior,” according to the police report.
She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, police said.
Holmes told officers she was out bar-hopping with friends, when they stopped at the diner, police said. She claimed the other group of women started the fight.
Holmes was released on a promise to appear in court on April 21.
Diner employees estimate they lost about $225 in revenue from the incident. Police hope to view video surveillance soon.
