At 4:50 p.m., Stop & Shop employees stopped a 22-year-old man from Wellesley, Mass., from leaving the parking lot with two 30 packs of Busch Light Beer, valued at $20.99 each, police said.
Police charged Thomas Balanda with sixth-degree larceny and issued a misdemeanor summons to Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 30. He was released on a written promise to appear.
The second incident took place at just after 7 p.m., when loss prevention employees reported that a woman in her 40s was attempting to walk out of the store with two boxes of diapers valued at $42.52 each, police said.
The woman dropped the boxes of diapers at the door after realizing she was being watched, employees told police. The woman got into a white four-door sedan and left.
