Police: Shoplifters Take More Than 60 Cardigans From Fairfield Stores

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Banana Republic and The Loft on the Post Road both reported to Fairfield police Tuesday that a substantial number of cardigan sweaters had been stolen during the day, police said.

Officers were called to Banana Republic at 1:20 p.m. regarding the theft of 28 cardigans valued at $59.50 each, or nearly $1,670 total, police said.

According to the police report, video surveillance of the store showed three people, two light-skinned women and a light-skinned man, going in and out of the store with a large blue shoulder bag after lingering in the area near the cardigans.

Later in the afternoon, The Loft contacted police regarding a similar theft of 34 cardigans valued at $54.50 each, or just more than 1,850 total, police said.

The store did not know when the theft occurred, except that it had happened in the last day, police said. They told police that a similar theft had taken place in the Milford Loft.
