Police Search For Suspect Who Stole Xbox From Fairfield Gamestop

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield police are searching for a suspect who stole a used Xbox 360 game system from Gamestop of Black Rock Turnpike on Friday, Dec. 12.

Employees of the video game store said a black male, wearing a shirt with black sleeves and tan pants entered the store looking for an Xbox 360 gaming console, police said. When an associated asked whether he needed help, according to police, the man asked whether the stack of systems he was standing in front of were used.

Police said the employee informed the man that the systems were used, but the suspect said he wanted a new one, at which point the employee walked away to help another customer. The suspect then picked up one of the used consoles and walked out of the store and fled the scene with an Xbox 360 valued at $150, police said.

The larceny was caught on surveillance, police said. Although the theft is under investigation, police believe it may have been a distraction scheme.

“These [distraction schemes] will happen more and more often as we get closer to the holidays,” Fairfied Lt. James Perez said. “and they will continue after the holidays when people are making returns.”

Fairfield police ask that anyone with information on the suspect, call headquarters at 203-254-4800.
