Police were called to the home around 9:45 p.m., and the woman told officers her 67-year-old husband had punched her in the face with a closed fist, police said.
The husband said he slapped her with an open hand after she punched him repeatedly in the leg and twisted his toes while they were in bed, police said.
The man was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 30, police said.
On New Year’s Day, officers were called to the home again because his wife felt he might be a suicide threat, police said.
At about 5:30 p.m. he told her he “wouldn’t be bothering her anymore” and left the home, police said. Officers found him on Cleveland Street in Bridgeport and he was sent to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation, police said.
