Police: Fairfield Woman Caught Shoplifting Groceries, Beer

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield woman was caught stealing $57 worth of groceries Friday morning, a day after video surveillance footage showed her taking beer, police said.

Officers were called to ShopRite, 1975 Black Rock Turnpike, on the report of a shoplifter. When officers arrived, they were met by store employees, who had detained Melissa McMillan, 264 Ronald Drive, police said.

McMillan had placed grocery items in plastic and reusable bags, then left without paying, police said.

Police also said a store employee also noticed that beer was missing from the day before the theft. After watching surveillance camera footage from that day, he determined that McMillan had taken beer, police said.

Stop & Shop provided police with the video, police said.

McMillan was charged with sixth-degree larceny, police said.

McMillan’s bond was set at $500. Her court date is Sept. 25, police said.
