The witness told police she saw the man throw a beer can to the ground in anger and then get into a car on Grasmere Avenue, police say. A woman inside the car attempted to leave, but the suspect grabbed her on the arm to keep her from leaving, according to police reports.
The witness then dialed 911 on her cellphone. The man then sprayed a garden hose at the woman to end the call and told her to get off the phone, according to police reports.
When police arrived the victim was bleeding from facial injuries, police say. David Veccharino, 47, of Grasmere Avenue, admitted to hitting her, according to the police report.
Veccharino was charged with third-degree assault, interfering with an emergency call and two counts of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors, and first-degree unlawful restraint, a felony. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is due in court Thursday.
