Robert G. O’Donnell, 43, of Lovers Lane, was moving a computer table into the home that O’Donnell, his mother and the victim all share on Saturday, March 28, when the table fell over and the altercation began, according to police.
The victim, 66, who went to police headquarters on Reef Road to report the incident, said O’Donnell got on top of him and starting punching him, police said.
While trying to block O’Donnell’s attack, police said the victim noticed he was being hit with something hard but was able to wiggle free and head out the house and to his car to escape.
The victim had a noticeable injury to his head but did not require medical treatment, police said. An investigation determined that a mental illness may have been the cause of the altercation, police said.
O’Donnell was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree assault and assault of an elderly person. He was held on $50,000 bond and is due to appear in court March 30.

- Chandramohan Muniswamy, 40, of Melville Avenue, Fairfield, was charged with leaving a child unsupervised when he locked his 7-year-old son in the car for about 15 minutes, police said. Muniswamy was shopping at the Villa Avenue Stop & Shop, police said. The child appeared in good health and was not upset, police said.
- Students at Fairfield University reported that nearly $2,000 worth of belongings were taken out of an unlocked townhouse, police said. Students who reported the incident said a roommate was home sick in a different bedroom than the one that was burglarized, police said. Among the stolen items was a laptop valued at $1,400, police said.
