A protective order was issued against Michael Metrano, 56 of Fairfield, to stay away from his wife after he was arrested Friday on assault and breach of peace charges, police said.

According to the police report, Metrano returned to the home Monday evening even though he was aware of the protective order that stated he should stay away from the house.

Officers were called to the residence by his wife who said Metrano was in the house and she was in her car, police said. Officers took Metrano into custody when they found him coming out of the garage, police said. He told the officers he knew about the order but had returned home for a coat and his medication, police said.
