FAIRFIELD, Conn. - A Fairfield man was charged with assault after he punched his son in the face Sunday afternoon, police said.
Officers received two calls about the incident on Commerce Drive, one from Kevin Shay, 56, of Fairfield, and another from his son, police said.
Shay told police that his son was taking items off his mother's property on Commerce Drive, police said. The son called to report that his father had assaulted him, police said.
When officers arrived, Shay's son told police that he had permission from his grandmother, who owned the property, to take items and had been given a key to do so, police said. He told police that his father punched him in the face and spit at him, and two witnesses confirmed the incident, police said.
Shay was charged with breach of peace and third-degree assault. He was released on a written promise to appear in court Monday, Nov. 25. No information regarding his appearance was available.
