Five witnesses told police that the man got into a verbal argument with a group of juveniles while riding a dirt bike on Campfield Drive at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, police say. During the fight, he said he would “come back and kill” the kids, according to police reports.
The suspect returned on a bicycle later and began arguing the group again, this time waving an object that witnesses described as a machete, police say. He then knocked over mailboxes at two nearby homes and broke a side mirror off a car parked nearby, according to the police report. The total cost to repair the damage was estimated at $1,000, police say.
Officers went to the home of Richard Morawski, 45, of Beacon View Drive, who told police that he confronted the juveniles because they often yell obscenities outside his window, according to the police report. He also told officers that he had thrown the machete in a nearby wooded area, but the weapon was not found, police say.
Morawski was charged with second-degree threatening, a breach of the peace and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors, and risk of injury to a minor, a felony. He was released on $500 bond and is due in court May 5.
