The suspected entered the store at 257 Reef Road just after midnight and asked for a cigar, the police report said.

He then left the store but returned brandishing a shotgun, police said. He ordered the cashier to empty the drawer and left, the report said.

A clerk at a nearby Shell gas station said a suspicious male that fit the robber's description left that gas station just before officers arrived, police said.

Police described the suspect as a light-skinned black man, 6-foot-5, slightly heavyset, and about 30 years old with a dark brown goatee. He had short dark hair and was wearing a plain light gray hooded sweatshirt. The man also had on light blue jeans and was wearing light gray mason-style gloves with a light blue rubberized palm.

Police checked the area, looking for the suspect, and was assisted by the Westport K-9 officer.

A car possibly belonging to the suspect was seen at another Post Road gas statio, police said. It was described as a gray 2000 series Chrysler Sebring. Detectives collected evidence from the scene, police said.
