FAIRFIELD, Conn. Two Bronx men were accused of shoplifting more than $6,000 worth of equipment from Home Depot in Fairfield on Tuesday.
A witness told police that he saw two men furiously loading a van full of paint and other items on the sidewalk near Home Depot on Tuesday evening, according to the police report. At the gas station across the street, responding officers talked to two men who met the description.
The men showed a receipt for a $250 purchase at the store. The items found inside the van were worth noticeably more than what was paid for, police say.
Home Depot employees confirmed that the suspects had $6,080 worth of paint and carpentry supplies that were not paid for, according to the police report. Officers also found that the van they were driving was not registered, police say.
Miguel Ortiz, 19, and Ismael Rucci, 47, both of the Bronx, N.Y., were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny, both felonies. Ortiz was also issued a misdemeanor summons for misuse of license plates, driving without insurance or a valid license, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Both men were released on a $5,000 bond, and are due in court Aug. 28.
